How to Keep Your Hard Floors Clean and Safe During Winter
Dec 22, 2016
Hard floors are beautiful, but keeping them looking good throughout the winter can seem like a daunting task. With a few simple tips, however, you can keep your floors looking beautiful no matter what the weather brings.
Protect
Protecting your high traffic areas with throw rugs is one of the first things you can do to keep your floors looking nice. Areas just inside the exterior doors are of particular need for rugs. You can further protect floors by placing rubber mats outside your doors to help collect much of the ice, dirt and debris that is so prevalent this time of year. Another form of protection is to provide a place for family and visitors to leave their shoes right inside the door so they don’t track in dirt.
Clean
Dirt and sand can really damage your hard floors. Using a soft mop made of microfiber material will help capture any of the material that finds its way in. When cleaning, use white vinegar and water.
Dry
One of the most damaging things that can happen to your hard floors is allowing water to sit for too long. Keep a mop handy at all times to wipe up any moisture from wet boots and shoes. Using a soft, extra-absorbent mop will not only soak up excess moisture but will also allow you to keep the floor shining and looking new.
With a little forethought, you can prevent slips and falls as well as keep your hard floors looking their best. For help keeping your hard floors safe and looking great all weekend, contact the experts at ServiceMaster of Spartanburg today!
